Darn Winter

Darn winter OK, so it’s dead of winter and ice has taken over the neighborhood.   As I contemplate when I will take time to go outside to shovel the driveway, I decide to put on my coat and boots   and raise my garage door to assess the challenge.   Little did I know that I was being dared, by the sheet of ice, to take one step outside.   So I did, and down the driveway I went, sliding about 5 feet onto the street. Completely shocked, yet laughing, I sat there in disbelief.    Then I got up, looked up at the house, examined the 3” sheet of ice not only on the driveway, but also on the sidewalk and grass.    Again, I laugh wondering, ‘How am I going to get back to the house’, lololololol…   So, as best I could, in between laughing breaks,   I yelled for my daughter.   Of course, she’s in her room with the door closed, oblivious to what is going on downstairs let alone outside.   So I needed a plan.   I surveyed my choices and decided that I would try to walk sideways, up the g

Who are you - am I

I wrote this poem  as a result of people watching - noticing the extreme efforts people(including me, at times) go through to NOT make eye contact.  We  either claim to be in a hurry and/or we have declared our independence from the world around us, and/or we have developed such an intense love affair with our technology that the need to make organic contact is a thing of the past.  In any event, have we become so out of touch with our surroundings that we have completely forgotten what the impact of a smile, a nod, or any kind of acknowledgment can have on the potential recipient? Is it fair to say that the discovery of one another has been placed in the hands of dating sites and meet ups  that promise a 'match' you with someone worthy or of Like-mind-and-quality?  What are your thoughts? Who are you - Am I Who are all these people...most of whom I've never met? Are they future friends? Will they come into my life eventually... for a reason, a season, a

Lol...What the ‘H’ does that mean!

ROFL... There are so many  colloquialism  out there that communication, comprehension and intent  have become blurred. Although some are just plain funny, and have a defined meaning ie. ‘I laughed my butt off’, others can send a mixed message, ie. ‘Love ya’.  Why do we laugh our ‘butts off’? What the ‘H’ does that  mean? What does,  ‘Love ya’, mean? Is it another way of saying, ‘see ya’, ‘ I love you’, ‘boy you crazy’, ‘Bye Felicia’?  How about when I’m called ‘Ma or Mommie’ I have to admit, It’s fresh when the bruthas ask, ‘How you doin Ma/mommie’  But am I misinterpreting the context?  Do I look old enough to be your mother, are you flirting,  Am I being Punked? Please explain. Lets have some fun. What colloquialisms do you hear/say and please tell me...what the ‘H...’ does that mean...LOL!   Stay woke

Can I Be Me

Whitney Houston was known for saying,  ‘Can I be me?’ That statement makes me think about an Article I wrote in my book that goes like this: ‘My Skin - dark as the night until the light reveals my hue. My Face  - beautiful as the night sky, present in every episode of life. My Heart -  mysterious as a dark room until you open your heart and let me in. Do you wear a mask for self preservation? Can you be you? Tell me about it.

Is perception really the Truth, an Excuse or Something else? Share your comments, then purchase my book and get educated - cause when you smile, the whole world dances.
