Can I Be Me


 Whitney Houston was known for saying,  ‘Can I be me?’ That statement makes me think about an Article I wrote in my book that goes like this: ‘My Skin - dark as the night until the light reveals my hue. My Face  - beautiful as the night sky, present in every episode of life. My Heart -  mysterious as a dark room until you open your heart and let me in. Do you wear a mask for self preservation? Can you be you? Tell me about it.

Feelings - Denial of the Heart

Who's been here before.  Resisting love as if we can control the natural hormonal influx followed by the fight between the heart and the desire to win, only to be stuck in between yourself.   Check out this poem I wrote during a 10 round fight between myself.  I won....or did I? Denial of the Heart Can you blame me for giving into his touch? His hands are like mmmm, and his lips - too much. Cant give into the temptation, its not good for my heart. When I first met him, it was strictly for art. Don't want to love him, I don't have the time. Dude you need a girlfriend, cause you'll never be mine! No, I'm not your lady and you're not my man - I can fight this feelings, believe me I can! If you really love me, you'll help me resist - I need to forget that I've ever been kissed! Next time you see me, it's back to business. Don't want you, don't need you,  and, yes, my hearts a huge mess.

Who are you - am I

I wrote this poem  as a result of people watching - noticing the extreme efforts people(including me, at times) go through to NOT make eye contact.  We  either claim to be in a hurry and/or we have declared our independence from the world around us, and/or we have developed such an intense love affair with our technology that the need to make organic contact is a thing of the past.  In any event, have we become so out of touch with our surroundings that we have completely forgotten what the impact of a smile, a nod, or any kind of acknowledgment can have on the potential recipient? Is it fair to say that the discovery of one another has been placed in the hands of dating sites and meet ups  that promise a 'match' you with someone worthy or of Like-mind-and-quality?  What are your thoughts?
